Our MessageGiveTogether is a student-led initiative dedicated to encouraging blood and plasma donation among Canadian post-secondary students. In partnership with Canadian Blood Services, we promote the GiveBlood app to make the donation process simple and approachable.
Before Your First DonationYou must be at least 17 years old and in generally good health to donate blood or plasma in Canada.
Appointments are required. Same-day slots are sometimes available — book through blood.ca or the GiveBlood app.
A standard blood donation takes around 450 ml (about a pint) and the whole visit usually takes under an hour.
Plasma is replenished within hours, platelets within days, and red blood cells over the following weeks.
Can I Donate?Depending on your responses to a few quick questions, you may be able to donate as of today. Your eligibility will also be confirmed by a Canadian Blood Services representative at your appointment.
